Legislation Introduced to Reinstate H-1C Nurse Program

On May 23, 2011, Rep. Lamar Smith introduced legislation that would reinstate the H-1C nurse program.  The program, which expired on December 21, 2009, enables hospitals located in health professional shortage areas to ameliorate their nursing shortages by hiring foreign-born, U.S.-licensed nurses.  For more information about the nationwide nursing shortage, click here.
