Obama grants Employment Authorization to DREAMers

On June 15, 2012, President Obama announced that the Department of Homeland Security will offer deferred action to individuals that qualify as DREAMers.  In order to qualify, immigrants must meet the following criteria:

  • 15-30 years old, and entered the United States before age 16.
  • Continuous residence in the United States for 5 years and be present in the US on June 15, 2012.
  • No convictions for felony, significant misdemeanor or multiple minor misdemeanors.
  • Currently enrolled in school, graduated or have a GED, or be an honorably discharged veteran.
  • The deferred action offer will be available to those in proceedings, as well as those who apply affirmatively.
