NYTimes: Obama Speaks Out on Minor Crime Deportations

According to a recent New York Times article, President Obama has come under siege from immigrant advocate groups accusing his administration of irresponsible deportation policies, allegedly targeting only those undocumented immigrants arrested for minor crimes. In defense of his initiative to diminish the country’s illegal resident population, however, the President stands by his initial promise to focus deportation enforcement on “criminals, gang bangers, people who are hurting the community, not students, not folks who are here just because they’re trying to figure out how to feed their families.” This standpoint on immigration reform has incited controversy concerning the rights of non-criminal aliens to the privileges of American residence.
