Politico: White House Readies Immigration Legal Defense

Politico reports that the Obama administration is readying its defense for what is expected to be a ferocious legal assault on immigration executive actions. Administration lawyers have concluded that President Obama has ample space to offer the deportation relief he announced on Thursday, based on previous Supreme Court and lower court decisions. The two main arguments in defense of the executive actions are Obama’s broad legal discretion to decide which immigrants are deported, plus┬ápredecessors including Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush having taken similar steps.
