Court Win for Immigrant-Rights Attorneys

Politico reports that immigrant rights attorneys have won an important round in federal court in Seattle, keeping alive their lawsuit challenging President Obama’s decision to rush thousands of children from Central America into deportation proceedings last summer without first assuring them legal counsel. U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly denied the Justice Department’s (DOJ) motion to dismiss the case outright on jurisdictional grounds and said instead that the child migrants’ due process right-to-counsel claim was vital and deserves “an answer.”
