Under certain circumstances, a physician the US on a J-1 visa can obtain a waiver allowing him or her to stay in the U.S. after completing residency training.
As of January 5, 2012, the Nevada State Health Division had 28 Conrad 30 slots still available.

The Maine Department of Health continues to solicit Conrad 30 J-1 Waiver applications from International Medical Graduates.
The Maine J-1 Visa Waiver program accepts applications from international medical graduates practicing primary care medicine. The program will also accept applications from physicians practicing in sub-specialties. Applications are accepted beginning October 1 through September 15, with review completed within 30 days of receipt of your application. The U.S. Department of State has issued it’s February 2012 Visa Bulletin. The employment-based second preference cut-off date for India and China have moved to 1/1/2010.

The Arizona Department of Health confirmed on January 6, 2012 that it had received 28 Conrad 30 applications through the end of December. The J-1 waiver program is now closed. The Arizona J-1 waiver program is expected to reopen in March for the remaining 2 slots and any additional slots made available if pending applications do not result in waiver recommendations.
The Arizona Bureau of Health Systems Development (HSD) supports a variety of programs and services meant to improve access to high quality primary health care, particularly for the uninsured and other vulnerable populations.

The U.S. Department of State has issued a press release announcing that the U.S. Consulate in Chennai will no longer process immigrant visa (IV) petitions, effective 1/1/12. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai will be the only acceptance centers for IVs in India.

The Tennessee Conrad 30 J-1 Waiver Program Continues to Accept Applications as of 1/1/2012. The Tennessee J-1 Visa Waiver program accepts applications from international medical graduates practicing primary care medicine – specifically General Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, Family Practice, or OB/GYN. The program will accept up to nine (9) applications from physicians who practice sub-specialties. Applications are accepted from October 1 to September 1.
